/about

A small studio with a code-review habit.

Code Craft Advisory is a web development and technology consultancy. We started from one observation: most projects go wrong before anyone writes code, in the decisions about what to build, with what, and for whom.

So every engagement starts with advice and ends with a handover. We write the plan down, build to it, and teach your team to run what we ship.

Advice before code
If a plugin, a template or doing nothing solves the problem, we say so.
Boring where it counts
Proven tools for the foundations. New ones only where they earn their place.
Handover is the product
You get documentation, a walkthrough and a repository you control.

How an engagement runs

  1. WEEKS 1–2

    Discover

Stakeholder interviews, an audit of the current site and a read of your analytics. You get findings and a written plan.

  2. WEEK 3

    Plan

Scope, architecture, design direction and a fixed quote. Nothing is built until you approve this.

  3. WEEKS 4–10

    Build

Two-week iterations on a live staging site, with a demo at the end of each one.

  4. FINAL WEEK

    Hand over

Documentation, team training and the start of your 90 days of support.

/services

Six ways we can help.

Hire us for one, or run them in sequence. Most clients start with a discovery sprint or an audit.

4–12 weeks

Marketing sites, web apps and customer portals.

Fast, accessible sites on a stack your team can maintain. We work with React, Next.js and Node, with the CMS you prefer, and we are happy to use the tools you already own.

  • Production site
  • Staging environment
  • Component library
  • Handover docs

6–14 weeks

Storefronts, checkout and catalogue integrations.

Shopify, WooCommerce or a custom build. We concentrate on the pages that decide revenue (product, cart and checkout) and on the integrations that keep stock and orders correct.

  • Storefront
  • Payments and shipping
  • Analytics events
  • Admin training

1–3 weeks

Architecture reviews, stack choices and build-versus-buy.

A senior engineer reads your code, talks to your team and writes down what we would do and why. Useful before a hire, a rebuild or a vendor decision.

  • Written review
  • Ranked risks
  • Six-month roadmap

1–2 weeks

Core Web Vitals and WCAG 2.2, with fixes ranked by effort.

We measure real-user data, then test with a keyboard and a screen reader. Every finding comes with a fix and an estimate.

  • Scored findings
  • Fix list by impact
  • Retest after fixes

6–16 weeks

Change platforms without losing your search traffic.

Content audit, redirect map, staged cutover and monitoring after launch. We treat every old URL as something a customer may have bookmarked.

  • Redirect map
  • Content migration
  • Launch plan
  • Monitoring

Monthly

Retainers, code review and onboarding for your developers.

A fixed number of hours each month for fixes, reviews and questions, plus workshops for your team.

  • Monthly hours
  • Response-time commitment
  • Quarterly health check

/pricing Sample pricing

Fixed scope. Fixed price.

Three ways to work with us. Every quote is written down before any code is, and the price does not move unless the scope does.

Notes from the review desk.

Short, practical writing on performance, strategy and how we run projects.

How we triage a slow website in 40 minutes

A repeatable first pass: check real-user data, find the largest image, list the third-party scripts, then decide what to fix first.

The short version
  • Start with field data. A lab score can mislead.
  • The biggest image and the slowest script are usually most of the problem.
  • Fix in order of effort, not in order of embarrassment.

What a discovery sprint actually produces

Two weeks, four documents, and one decision. Here is what lands in your inbox at the end, and what we ask of you along the way.

The short version
  • You receive findings, a plan, a fixed quote and a risk list.
  • We need three interviews and access to your analytics.
  • You can stop after the sprint and keep everything.

Rebuild or refactor? A decision table

Most rebuilds start with frustration. A short set of questions about your team, your data and your deadlines usually points to the cheaper answer.

The short version
  • Refactor when the data model is sound and the pain is in the interface.
  • Rebuild when every change touches five unrelated files.
  • Either way, ship in slices and keep the old site running.

Core Web Vitals are a budget, not a score

Treat load time like money. Decide what each page can spend, then make every new script justify its cost.

The short version
  • Set a limit per page for image weight and JavaScript.
  • Review third-party tags every quarter.
  • Fail the build when a page goes over budget.

Choosing a CMS without regret

The best CMS is the one your editors will use on a Tuesday afternoon. We walk through how to test that before you sign anything.

The short version
  • Let two editors publish a real page as a trial.
  • Check export options before you commit.
  • Price the plugins you will need, not the base licence.

Handover documents your developers will read

One page on how to run it, one on how to change it, and one on what to do when it breaks at night. Everything else is optional.

The short version
  • Write for the developer who joins next year.
  • Include a working local setup in under 15 minutes.
  • List every account and who owns it.
